Ebooks Taking Over Commonwealth: Good or Bad?

Ebooks, another exciting technological advancement our school has acquisitioned. It seems as ebooks taking over the school is a determined eventuality, yet how are they perceived through the eyes of the students? Well, after an interview with one of our own Comets, Alfredo Ortiz, we proceed onto a student’s distinct perspective on the subject. “I’m an open book,” stated Ortiz ironically, “I think it’s a mixture of both liking and disliking the concept. I like the orthodox form of being taught and the weight of books on my back, as odd as tha

t may sound. Then again, I have to admire the nature of ebooks considering the accessibility in consideration that one has internet which at times one may not”. Ebooks are genuinely useful and easily accessible yet at times technological obstacles may be confronted. Despite a hard covered book’s weight, you can never go wrong with reading straight off of the paper. This brings us to another interview with one of our school’s renowned teachers, Alexandra Rodriguez, or better known as Mrs. Chem, in

which she spoke out on the presence of ebooks as a resource for students. She claims that despite her not usually using the book in her regular chemistry class, it serves as a proper resource for students to study from, and as for her AP Chemistry class, the ebook is an essential resource that is used consistently throughout the course. As long as technical support is at hand, the ebook is a great tool and presents a new and easier way to study. Since the imposition of ebooks in the Science Department of Commonwealth has been a great success, it seems that the school will be limiting the use of hardcover textbooks and present a new curriculum based entirely on virtual books. This change will definitely be beneficial to many students since they wouldn’t have to carry around the immense weight of hardcover books, and will provide easy access to the necessary information for a student’s essential classes.
