Commonwealth Welcomes New Students!
In order to get acquainted with our new students and make them feel welcome, The Comet’s Tale interviewed some of our new Comets from 8th to 12th grade. We asked them what drew them to Commonwealth, which school they came from, and what they like most about our school so far.
Antonio Ayala (12th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. When we visited, the first person I met was Ms. Dina, the school director, who made me feel very welcome to the school and that there were a lot of opportunities here for me. I left the school with a good feeling.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. The Macintosh High School in Georgia.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. The classers classes are smaller and everyone was very friendly, opening, and inviting. Also, the teachers are very hands-on and very helpful.
Claudia Vazquez (10th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. I wasn’t really feeling very challenged at my old school.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Cupeyville.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. The dynamic—everyone is more friendly and united.
Angelica Rodriguez (10th grade)

A. My parents.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Escuela Central Especializada de Artes Visuales.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. The facilities are great and, the food is good—especially the Nutella crepes!
Diego Sala (10th grade)

A. How challenging the education is here.

A. Escuela Padre Rufo.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. The school’s community.
Gabriel Baez (10th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. I would always see it when I passed by it and I liked it a lot.

A. American Military Academy.
Q. What do like most about CHS so far?
A. Honestly, I like everything.
Edwin Ayala (10th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. I was looking for a really good school here in Puerto Rico and I found this one while looking and I saw what great education they had. It seemed like it had really nice people in it too.

A. The Macintosh High School in Georgia.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. I like everything: the education is awesome, the people are totally awesome too—it’s just a great community.
Adriana Baez (10th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. My parents wanted a change and told me this was a really good school to prepare you for college.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Cupeyville.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. I really like the people, and the classes are really good. I just love the environment.
Enrique Alonso Alsonso (9th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. It was the first school to accept me, and I used to go here until second grade. My grandmother also used to teach here.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. The Great Valley High School in Pennsylvania.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. I like how the teachers can connect with the student and how the schedule is less strict.
Mariola Contreras (9th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. My older brother Raul went to this school. I also didn’t like my old school.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Academia Maria Reina.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. I like the people here and the teachers.
Sophia Beltran (9th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. My grandfather knew a former Commonwealth teacher and suggested the school.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Sagrado Corazon de Jesus University Gardens.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. The people have made me feel very welcome. I like how I’m pushed to work harder in my classes.
Fernando Duran (9th grade)

A. My parents wanted me to come to this school.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Colegio San Antonio.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. I like the people and the teachers. Everything is really chill.
Fernando Ramos (9th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. I saw that it was a very successful school and that a lot of people were getting Presidential Awards and nominations, so I decided to join.

A. Academia Menonita.
Q. What do you like most about CHS so far?
A. I really can’t answer, everything is so good!

A. I have a lot of friends who go here.

A. The activities that are available here.

A. My parents.

A. The smaller groups, everything is more close-knit.

A. I like that it’s chill.
Isabel Zuniga (11th grade)
Q. What drew you to CHS?
A. My dad was moving from Colorado to Philadelphia, and my parents gave me the option of attending school in Puerto Rico. I decided I wanted to take the opportunity because I did not have the chance to attend Commonwealth previously, and I always loved it.
Q. Which school are you from?
A. Fairview High School in Boulder, CO.
Q. What do you like most about Commonwealth so far?
A. The teacher/student relationships. There were many people in my grade and it was hard to have connections with the teachers because they saw you as a number instead of a student. I also love how everyone here has a chance to participate in all activities.
